Laughing Out Loud: Favorite Funny Stories

November 18, 2008

I love that my kids have a sense of humor now.  Nothing is cuter than seeing your little one get the joke for the first time.  Because it is just so darn enjoyable to watch them belly laugh, I think that it is a good idea to have a decent collection of funny tales on hand.  These are some of our funny faves.

Bendemolina (or the Girl Who Wore a Pot on Her Head) by Jan Slepian is a great book.  Our copy of this story was published in 1967 and orginally belonged to my husband when he was growing up.  The book tells the story of a cat who wears a pot on her head because her family is so loud.  She never quite hears what her mother asks her to do and the results are -- well, hysterical.

The Harry McClary Series  by Lynley Dodd (and the also hysterical companion book Slinky Malinki).  My kids love the adventures of Harry  (a dog) and his friends and Slinky (a cat) -- and I find them charming as well.

A Girl and Her Gator by Sean Bryan with illustrations by Tom Murphy tells the story of a girl who wakes up with a gator on her head and the adventures that ensue.  (also check out the hysterically funny companion book A Bear and His Boy).

What books make you laugh out loud at your house?
