The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

November 20, 2008

Are you starting to get that holiday feeling?  I know that I am. The stores have their decorations up.  The twenty-four-hour-a-day holiday music station is at it already.  What do they say . . . . it's the most magical time of the year, right?

If you are looking for a family event to get your gang in the mood, head down to the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival on November 22nd.

Let me begin by saying that I fully recognize that this event is a ploy by the retailers on Michigan Avenue to get you and your family eating in their restaurants and shopping in their stores.  But the event is also sort of the official "kick off" to the holiday season in Chicago and I guarantee you that the kiddos will have a blast.

The event kicks off around noon with family-friendly programming (including an appearance by Mickey Mouse and musical performances) and concludes with a parade down Michigan Avenue (beginning at 6:00p.m.), an official "lighting" of over a million lights, and fireworks over the river.  Leave the car at home and make use of public transportation to save big parking headaches.

Sounds fun, right?  Now all you have to do is hope for decent weather (or really, really bundle up)!
