A Spin Around the Ice Rink, Anyone?

December 01, 2008

Winter in Chicago brings all sorts of things that I am not so crazy about (including snow plows, bitter cold wind whipping your face as you walk down Michigan Avenue, etc.).  But winter also brings the opportunity to engage in my favorite winter sport:  ice skating.  The rinks are officially open!

The Chicago Park Districtâ??s ice skating rinks opened on the day after Thanksgiving and the season runs through Saturday, Feb. 28th (weather permitting).

If you bring your own skates, ice skating at all Chicago Park District ice rinks is free. Skate rentals are $5 at all rinks except for Daley Bicentennial, which has an additional $1 surcharge.

For more details including hours, fees and locations, see the Chicago Park District's website.

The skating season has also offically begun at Millennium Park's McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink. The rink is expected to remain open through Sunday, March 15, 2009 (weather permitting). Skating in Millennium Park is free and open to the public. Skate rental is available for $10.

If you have any little ones who are eager to get a pair of skates on and go for a spin, take advantage of one of these wintertime hot spots.
