Season's Greetings

December 05, 2008

Around this time of year, busy Moms and Dads are scrambling around, trying get all of the holiday shopping, decorating, and baking done.  And the family holiday card is always part of a long to-do list.  Why not incorporate your child's artwork into the family card this year?  Use this project as an opportunity to teach your preschooler that sending holiday wishes means more than just signing your name to a piece of stationary.

Here are a few easy holiday card ideas from my December craft column in Chicago Parent Magazine:

(1) Original Artwork.   Scan a piece of your child's holiday-themed artwork and make it the cover of your card.

(2)  Stamps, Glitter, and Cut Outs, Oh My! Provide your child with a selection of art supplies.  Let them decorate the cover of plain note cards however they would like and include a family photo on the inside (recipients get to enjoy some artwork and a picture of the artist himself!)

(3) Think Outside the Card. Who says that your holiday greeting has to come in the form of a boring card, anyway?  Purchase unfinished wooden ornaments from a craft store and let your child paint them.  Attach a small card with your holiday wishes and your friends and family will have a lovely addition to their tree.

Your turn.  Share your creative ideas for incorporating your little ones into your family holiday card.
