The Big Picture: Five Things That Really Matter to Your Preschooler

January 06, 2009

The theme at Savvy Source for the month of January is "Resolutions and Reflecting."  All month long we are going to be posting about looking back on your time with your little ones (time really does fly, doesn't it?) and planning for the future.  Today, we are focusing on the things that really matter to our preschoolers (and skipping all of the other superfluous stuff).

I think that little ones are really not all that different than adults in terms of what is important to them.

Family.  When it comes down to it, nothing beats the security created by Mom, Dad and brothers and sisters -- whether you are four or forty.

Friends.  Even though preschoolers are just learning what it means to have a friend and be a friend, they relish the opportunity to interact with their peers.

Work.  Little ones need to feel like they have purposeful activity -- whether it is finger painting or helping Mom bake muffins.

Play.  Running.  Jumping.  Skipping.  Preschoolers are always on the move.  Our little ones seem to have boundless energy and they need daily opportunities to burn it off!

Rest.  The life of a preschooler is a busy one (how is that for an understatement?) and they need restorative rest in order to recharge for the next big adventure -- even if that means a half an hour of "quiet time" reading books in their room after lunch.

Your turn.  What really matters to your preschooler?
